LitWorld Coordinator for Communications, Advocacy-Based Programs and Storytelling Engagement

LitWorld Coordinator for Communications, Advocacy-Based Programs and Storytelling Engagement will work closely with our programming, communications and fundraising teams to share and grow LitWorld’s messaging and global impact, working through the lens of advocacy, cultivation, community-building and gratitude.

Success in this role will require excellent attention to detail, interest in strategic thinking, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, joyful, mission-driven environment.The ideal candidate will be experienced and comfortable with graphic design, visual media, writing, and social media platforms, enthusiastic about using those skills to further LitWorld’s mission.

Social Media & Online Communications:

  • Shares stories, images and videos from the field through social channels on a daily basis to further LitWorld’s mission and to advocate for LitWorld’s work
  • Collects and archives stories, images, videos and children’s work from the field and office
  • Maintains the LitWorld website, working closely with the team to develop and publish written content, images, event and campaign updates
  • Manages the content calendar for the LitWorld blog, including soliciting and editing guest blog posts from programming and communications partners
  • Tracks ongoing analytics for LitWorld's online channels, including social media, website and email marketing

Writing & Content Creation:

  • Collaborates with the programming, development and leadership teams on research and writing projects including articles, presentations, proposals and marketing materials
  • Supports the creation of blog posts, newsletters and email communications
  • Maintains and adds to LitWorld’s research archives for use in written communications and presentations
  • Creates visual content such as infographics, flyers and programming workbooks for online and print materials
  • Creates short video content for use online and at special events
  • Supports additional projects with copy and content editing

Advocacy & Marketing:

  • Participates in branding, PR and marketing meetings related to LitWorld’s organizational strategy and messaging
  • Leads project management of our large advocacy events, especially World Read Aloud Day, through the lens of communications
  • Collaborates on major communications with partners and corporate sponsors including Scholastic, NYC Department of Education and Chancellor's office, Penguin Publishers, NY Public Library, Skype in the Classroom, and more
  • Coordinates cohort of grassroots "WRADvocates" to engage with World Read Aloud Day on social media channels
  • Supports LitWorld’s PR work, including drafting press releases


  • Supports virtual fundraising and event marketing in collaboration with the development team
  • Supports grant writing and reporting
  • Supports event planning and promotion through the lens of communications
  • Leads project management of LitWorld’s annual report and collaborates on written and visual content creation


  • Assists with planning, preparation and promotion of programming events including local Story Summits and LitFests
  • Coordinates the “LitWorld Teen Advocates,” a group of high school students who promote LitWorld’s work in their own communities and come together for mini-internships at LitWorld’s office during school breaks


  • Supports the day-to-day operations of LitWorld by helping to maintain a clean office space, running errands and executing clerical tasks
  • Supports planning, preparation and execution of LitWorld’s major events, including the Spring Fundraiser, the Annual Appeal and major advocacy days
  • Assists the team with additional tasks and projects as they emerge


  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 1-2 years of experience in communications and comfort with social media, web content creation and graphic design
  • Interest in work with children and communities through a literacy lens; experience working with children preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Comfort working in Photoshop and/or Illustrator required, InDesign a plus
  • Comfort with Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Salesforce, MailChimp, Squarespace, Google Drive, Asana, and video editing software a plus
