From the Bill of Rights, to MLK's sermons, to a child's poem, democracy is not possible without literacy. LitWorld is piloting a new way for advocates to come together and take action in their communities. Introducing LitWorld Chapters: the intersection of civic engagement and literacy.
We envision that Chapters would meet 7 times a year (for the 7 Strengths), to discuss a LitWorld-selected reading list around civic engagement empowerment, from Sequoia's speech to Reagan's first Inaugural to the text of Whitman's Leaves of Grass, to Langston Hughes' great poem "I, Too, Sing America" and more. We will use literacy to inspire our Chapters to take action in their local communities.
Together, we will build a future where every child has the right to read, write and share their stories.
