Take the “Build a Story” Challenge

Watch the LitWorld team build their own story!

In 2022, LitWorld® introduced the Build a Story challenge for World Read Aloud Day to encourage readers and writers of all ages to share their stories with the world—and we received tons of amazing submissions from around the globe.

This year, we’re challenging you again! Build your own unique story using the prompts below, then read it aloud on Flip and share your story with the world!

Step 1: Build Your Story

Small moment personal narratives are stories about our lives. They explore important moments a person has experienced and often teach us something about who that person is and how those moments have taught or shaped them. There is no wrong way to tell a personal narrative, but they often follow a chronological order and reveal some sort of life lesson. You can compose your "small moment personal narrative" story on your own, or use the prompts below to help!

CodePen - CSS-Tricks Card Carousel

1. "Once upon a time, there was..."

Come up with a character and a description of them.

2. "Everyday..."

What is this character's objective? What do they want to accomplish?

3. "But..."

What stands in the way of their objective?

4. "So…"

What does the character do to overcome their obstacle?

5. "But then…"

Add a conflict!

6. "Because of that..."

How does the character respond to the conflict?

7. "Finally..."

How does the story end?

Step 2: Share Your Story with the World!

Record yourself reading the unique story you built using the Flip below and share it with the world! Simply make an account using your Google or Microsoft email, then click on the “Build A Story” box and press “Add Response”.

If you are a minor, please ask a guardian for help or permission to create an account. If you wish to remove a recording, you can do so easily by visiting the Flipgrid.
